I had the privilege of being the MC for Asian Pacific Islander American Heritage Month’s Poster Contest sponsored by the LA Mayor’s office and Wells Fargo. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa handed out awards to a couple dozen students K-12 that created posters celebrating prominent APIA trailblazers. I was really impressed by all the poster artwork done by the kids. It was great to encourage their creativity but also challenge them to learn about important APIA historical figures. The ceremony was held at the LA Zoo so the kids got to spend a little time with some animals. I checked out the new reptile exhibit and elephants. I also asked the President of the LA Zoo if he could get some penguins there, of course.
